Finding Your Niche in the O.C.

If you are new to the area, you will be delighted to find that Orange County has a lot to offer as an outdoor destination. Newport Back Bay is a great place for bird watching and a casual hike. The Arroyo Trabuco trail in Trabuco Canyon offers scenic hiking in the O'Neill Regional Park. The Upper Peters Canyon Reservoir in the City of Orange provides trails for both bipeds and bikes. Closer to shore, Crystal Cove is popular for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, swimming, surfing, and scuba diving. You can also get a breath of fresh air at the Laguna Beach greenbelt, which is off of Laguna Canyon Road 133. You might also want to check out the Irvine Ranch Land Reserve or the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, where the Nature Conservancy leads a full schedule of hikes, mountain bike tours, and equestrian rides.

As you can tell, there is plenty to do for the athletically inclined in Orange County. There are over 30,000 acres of spectacular parks to explore where you can experience outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, biking, running, swimming, and camping. Caspers Wilderness Park, Newport Dunes Resort, Featherly Regional Park, and O'Neill Regional Park offer camping.

You can always ride your bike or rollerblade along the beach boardwalk if you are in the mood for the beach scene. And if you just need to show off, the athletically inclined can always test their skills at skimboarding, a sport that was invented in Orange County.
